Champ Camp is a residential summer camp for child burn survivors ages 5-16 About 130 children a year attend this weeklong summer camp at Wonder Valley in Sanger, California. The camp is run by the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.
Champ Camp, which is one week-long, is free to all burn survivors and it is fully staffed by medical doctors, nurses, program staff, volunteers and counselors – many of whom are also burn unit nurses, burn doctors, adult burn survivors and firefighters.
Activities at Champ Camp include team building activities, as well as canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, arts and crafts, archery, and water slides. The emphasis is on fun; allowing the children a fun reprieve from medical procedures and financial hardships. Champ Camp offers burn survivors a safe environment where they can play, learn, grow, gain self-esteem, and make new friends.
Champ Camp is free to anyone who’s been treated for burns at California hospitals or are current residents of California.
