EQUIP: Equine-Assisted Activities and Therapies

Equip Equine TherapyEQUIP is hosted by the beautiful Rocking T Ranch in Yorba Linda, California. The facilities provide a cozy, rustic ranch setting where clients can grow and develop in a positive environment. Safety is paramount, and the finest of horses (schoolmasters) are used.

The program was founded by Gary Mullen, Ed.D., who developed two other such programs in University settings. Executive Director Jim Tice and Maggie Kehrer, a Path International instructor, provide lessons to meet the unique needs of each client. Every lesson incorporates ground activities as well as mounted activities. Interaction with the farm animals is incorporated into the tail end of many sessions. The client experience is intended to be therapeutic at many levels.

Therapeutic riding offers a number of physical, social, cognitive, educational and behavioral benefits.

Persons with disabilities such as Autism, ADD, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Rhetts Syndrome, Visual Impairments, Hearing Impairments, Social, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders have experienced benefits from therapeutic riding.

Friends At Play

Friends At Play“Friends at Play” is a therapeutic program that provides social skills training groups for children with developmental delays. Participants have specific delays in the areas of social initiation, social communication, cooperative play, and/or developing social relationships. The program is based upon the philosophy that children with special needs are able to develop these skills in a naturalistic, play-based setting with their peers (disabled and non-disabled). The rationale for developing this program was based upon a lack of social skills training groups in the community that were inclusive, yet developmentally appropriate for regional center consumers to participate successfully with non-disabled peers.

What makes Fun & Fit Gymnastics unique is their completely non-competitive philosophy. At Fun & Fit, removing competition means more than just not having competitive teams. It means winning is defined as “personal best”, and children are never compared to each other.

The Fun & Fit Gymnastics Centers hold classes for children beginning at 12 months, for boys and girls of all ages, cheerleading classes and are well known for hosting incredible Birthday Parties for kids.

The instructors at Fun & Fit are professional experts hired for their outstanding abilities in teaching young children in a positive and patient manner, and expertise in safe and correct gymnastics education. Several of our staff members hold degrees in Child Development, Kinesiology or Education.
